Russia highlights "Roh Tae-woo's first handshake with Soviet leader"

 

As major Russian media reported the passing of former President Roh Tae-woo, it emphasized that he was the president of Korea with diplomatic relations with the former Soviet Union.

 

The daily Kommersant reported that Roh was "the first Korean president to shake hands with a Soviet leader."

 

It also explained northern diplomacy, saying that South Korea had relations with China and Eastern European countries during Roh's presidency.

 

It also highlighted the negative aspects of former President Roh, such as the 12/12 coup d'état and the armed suppression of the May 18th Gwangju Democratization Movement, as well as tens of billions of won in slush funds.
